WIPA NTC Supplemental Training: Practical Applications - Counseling Beneficiaries on Health Coverage Options (Part 2) Webinar
Format: Webinar
Date(s): June 15, 2010
Description:
The webinar is being held from 1:00 – 3:00pm Eastern Time.
This two-hour training session, being presented by Bryon MacDonald and Mason O'Neal from the California Work Incentives Initiative at the World Institute on Disability, is a companion to “CWIC Counseling with Beneficiaries on Public and Private Group Health Coverage Options”, that was recently offered. This course uses four case examples to train CWICs “how to” effectively counsel Social Security beneficiaries on health coverage options related to employment. The training looks at the sometimes-complex interaction between private health care coverage and public health care programs. Participants learn about health coverage rights and protections under HIPPA, COBRA, and other federal and state law.
*NOTE: It is not necessary to have participated in the first webinar to register for this webinar.
Topical areas covered include:
- Assessing a beneficiary’s current health coverage
- Where and how can beneficiaries learn about expanding health coverage options related to employment and employment planning
- Knowing when to make appropriate referrals (triage assessments)
- Rules and terms used when accessing employer-sponsored group health coverage plans
- Federal and state health coverage protections (HIPPA, COBRA, FMLA) for group health coverage
- Medicare, Medicaid and private health coverage appeal guidelines
- Primary payer rules between health coverage programs
- CWIC health care counseling tips and tools
