WIPA NTC Supplemental Training: Counseling Beneficiaries on Public and Private Group Health Coverage Options (Part 1) Webinar

This two-hour training session, being presented by Bryon MacDonald and Mason O'Neal from the California Work Incentives Initiative at the World Institute on Disability, will look at the complex interactions between private health care coverage and public health care programs. WIPA personnel will learn how to better provide counseling to beneficiaries on their health care options. After the training, there will be an additional 30 minutes available for questions and answers about the material.
Subjects covered include:
1. Debunking current myths about public and private health coverage
2. How can beneficiaries expand their options and access other health coverage options?
3. Assessing a beneficiary’s current health coverage
4. Review of public health coverage programs
5. Private individual and employer-sponsored group health coverage plans
6. Primary payer rules between health coverage programs
7. Federal and state health coverage protections (HIPPA, COBRA)
8. Key private health coverage terms and concepts
9. CWIC health care counseling tips and tools
As a supplemental training, CWICs are not required to participate in the webinar. However, we strongly encourage all WIPA personnel to register for this valuable training opportunity!

Who can attend this training?
This training is open to all WIPA project staff, SSA Demonstration project staff, and community partners who have participated in the CWIC Initial Training and successfully completed the CWIC assessment and certification process. Individuals successfully completing CWIC Recertification are also included in this group.
To be eligible to participate in this training, all registrants must be either CWIC provisionally certified, certified or recertified!
All WIPA Project Directors and Managers are also encouraged to participate regardless of their certification status.
