TANAC Introduction & Pre-Training Needs Assessment Survey
The American Indian Disability Technical Assistance Center (AIDTAC) is contracted by the Social Security Administration to provide training and technical assistance to Community Works Incentives Coordinators on cultural awareness and outreach strategies related to Native American SSA beneficiaries with disabilities. CWICs that have access to training and technical assistance on American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian cultural issues and customs will be better prepared to interact with Native Americans on issues related to SSA benefits for individuals with disabilities.
Last year the Technical Assistance on Native American Culture (TANAC) project addressed topics such as effective trust building and outreach strategies in Native American communities, how American Indian tribal sovereignty affects the provision of services, outreach in Native Hawaiian communities, and successful service provision for Alaska Natives with disabilities.
We look forward to another year of training with CWICs to conduct effective outreach to Native American beneficiaries with disabilities. We will continue to conduct teleconferences, facilitate focus groups, develop publications, and respond to the specific technical assistance requests of CWICs.
AIDTAC has developed a needs assessment survey to help us identify training and technical assistance needs in the area of Native American cultural considerations and to get a better understanding of your expectations of the TANAC program. This is a great opportunity for CWICs working in WIPA programs to provide input on the content of trainings that will improve working relationships with Native American communities in your service areas. Your views and opinions are important in helping us assess our services and will guide us as we plan and develop technical assistance on American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian culture, customs, and related issues that WIPA program personnel may need to communicate with or on behalf of Native American SSA beneficiaries with disabilities.
The survey collects information on the use of technical assistance; CWICs' current level of knowledge, familiarity, and awareness with Native American culture and customs; and information CWICs would like to receive from TANAC.
